With nothing more than mad kitchen skills, a food trailer and a Vespa scooter, Michael Rypka opened the original Torchy’s Tacos in Austin in 2006. Now there all over Texas and spreading nationally like fire ants.

Torchy’s does tacos like Ray Wylie does the blues, lean, mean and totally unpredictable. Go get you some Taco Dream.

This relatively new establishment — and by establishment we mean an empty lot with two giant tractor trailer-sized smokers — serves some of the best and most lauded barbecue in Austin. You might have to wait in line for awhile, but La Barbecue provides free beer (most of the time it’s Lone Star), while you wait.  And trust us, the wait is well worth it.
